The experience trap, why it’s so hard to get into Google’s search results.

07 Mar

why would you want to show up in the top search results in Google? To get traffic right? Problem is Google wants you to have a lot of traffic to get to the top results. Kind of a never ending struggle. Today Google even has a traffic requirement for adsence. This doesn’t mean Seo is dead, but it dose mean you have to go about it in a different way.

While link building is evolving (the quality of a link is more important than the quantity of links you have) Google is denying us useful information they used to give us before. For instance the keywords used to reach our sites. Google says it’s to protect the privacy of chrome users, but at the same time Google dose give you this information if you want to pay for ad-words. And for the pas year or so, Google even stopped showing the page rank for sites.

This all goes to show they they want you to get traffic on your own. But this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Before we could get any Spam links we wanted and it would still be OK. Now we have to think of the sites and visitors we get. That might be harder work, but it leads to much better conversions. It forces us to step up our game and make content that our visitors will enjoy and get more value from.

SEO is much harder today then it was a few years ago, but it’s totally worth it.
